THE FITNESS PROFESSIONALS GUIDE TO CLIENT NUTRITION

The Fitness Professionals Guide to Client Nutrition takes you through the latest evidenced-based information about essential nutrition knowledge. A diverse group of students ranging from Personal Trainer's, athletes, S&C coaches, coaches, those with a passion for fitness and more.

You'll cover defining a 'good diet', a review of global dietary guidelines, all you need to know about carbohydrates and sugars, the latest on dietary fats (including updated views on saturated fats and low-fat diets), how protein functions, and a special look at vegetarian and vegan diets. You'll also look into micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), water balance and hydration. Plus special topics such as food safety, food labels, eating disorders, and a chapter on dietary assessment (based on a non-diet approach).


We teach nutrition not diets! You'll hold solid foundation knowledge to make, and share, informed decisions, and you'll be able to know where to find credible information. We don't cover every diet known to man, we teach you how to evaluate them past, present and future, a life long skill.

  • This course is not an elective in our coaching programs. We don't recommend taking this course if you have completed the Certificate of Human Nutrition with us as there is reasonable overlap. EPs looking for nutrition courses with CPD should take the Certificate of Human Nutrition.

COURSE CONTENT
Content in brief
Extensive learning activities to apply knowledge to real life at each step, including handy templates, tools and websites. All materials and assessment are online within the private student portal.
  1. Introduction to nutrition, diet and guidelines
  2. Carbohydrates, sugars, short chain carbohydrates, long chain carbs, functions, requirements, digestion, working with carbohydrates healthfully
  3. Dietary fats, unsaturated, saturated, essential fatty acids, functions, requirements, digestion, working with dietary fats healthfully, cholesterol
  4. Protein, long chain carbs, structure, functions, requirements, sources, digestion, working with protein healthfully, vegetarianism
  5. Vitamins and minerals, function, requirements, courses
  6. Water balance
  7. Food labeling, reading labels, sugars, carbohydrates
  8. Food safety, additives, pesticides
  9. Food trends, eating habits, working with client diets and eating
  10. Disordered eating
  11. Digestive system, structure, processes, glands, secretions
  12. Energy balance and energy sources for movement
  13. References
Students shall by the end of the course be competent in:
  • List at least four principles of a health-filled diet
  • Create a referral network to support client’s needs
  • Describe basic digestive processes, structures and substances involved in the digestion of macro nutrients
  • Explain the basic structure, function, and sources of the macro-nutrients
  • Describe the basic function and sources of the main micro-nutrients
  • Explain the basic process of energy metabolism
  • List the most common concerns around food safety
Assessment:
This unit requires the submission of:
  1. An online multiple choice test, untimed, requires 70% pass
