Well College Global Social Responsibility

“I alone cannot change the world,
but I can cast a stone across the waters
to create many ripples
.”

― Mother Teresa

Well College Global's Social Responsibility Work

Of course most of us can do a little more and Well College is thrilled to be in a position to assist communities with a need for resources. In particular, Well College is keen to support women and children's health and education as we believe these are key areas for self-determination and independence. In doing so we hope that the entire community experiences positive outcomes. If we care for the carers our future generations will benefit!

Well College together with companies here in Australia with communities in remote areas and overseas ensuring accountability, ethical conduct and transparency. Such initiatives have the advantage of maximal provision, nothing is lost in administration or bureaucracy as everything is donated and shipped direct from source to recipient.

2021 CHARITY SCHOLARSHIP:
BURDEKIN ASSOCIATION

Picture
Well College are proud to have awarded the Certified Coach Professional Scholarship for 2021 to The Burdekin Association. The Burdekin Association enables young people aged 12 to 25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to develop the skills and confidence to live independently within the wider community.  They offer a range of accommodation and support options for children and young people between the ages of 9 and 17 who are under the care of the NSW Minister.  Burdekin also offer an extension of this program for young people who are turning 18 and require further accommodation and support. Their Out-of-Home Care program is accredited under the Office of the Children's Guardian and they also offer semi-independent housing for homeless or at-risk local young people committed to working with our case managers to develop the skills required to make the transition to living independently in the community.  One of the reasons the Burdekin Association have been successfully providing support services to young people on the Northern Beaches since 1981 is our ability to provide additional support services outside our core program areas which include Brokerage, Outreach and Prevention.

2020-2021 PLANET LOVING WELCOME PACKS

Students undertaking our major coaching programs receive either a digital welcome pack (if overseas) or a physical Welcome Pack in the mail consisting of planet-friendly, people-friendly treats. Founder and Director of Well College Global, Leanne Cooper, is passionate about the #puttheplantsback movement, so each physical Welcome Pack includes a pack of native Australia palm or tree seeds.
Every student is a "stone cast upon the water and is creating many ripples"!

2020 DONATION: STREETWORK

Picture
StreetWork are a Sydney-based community organisation that work with 'at risk' young people affected by crime, mental health issues, violence, destructive relationships, social isolation, homelessness, those disengaged from school or with poor employment opportunities and those impacted by alcohol and substance abuse, to help turn their lives around.
We were pleased to be able to support StreetWork this 2020 Festive Season, and the commitment they make to creating opportunities for the youth in our community.

SCHOOLS STATIONERY & CLOTHING INITIATIVE

As part of our commitment to health and well-being locally and wider afield,  Well College  partnered with a number of other companies to ship clothing and school stationery direct to communities in remote Australia, schools in Fiji and other Pacific Islands. Working with Pelikan Artline,  Curl Curl North Public School, Pickles School Uniforms and G&R Wills we have been able to ship children's clothing and school and office stationary to hundreds of children and families.

2015- Australia
Indigenous Childrens' Support Program

But wait there's more... 2015 saw Pelikan Artline freight extensive school stationery to remote areas in Australia to support indigenous initiatives in schooling to encourage positive experiences and outcomes at school in the early years. Relevant and culturally sensitive education is a resource that if you don't have access to can be of great disadvantage. Closing the gap between Indigenous Australia and non-Indigenous requires urgent attention to not only health, but education and much more.

2014- TONGA
A container of similar goods went to Tonga early 2014. In addition to the stationary supplies from Pelikan-Artline, donations included children's sports and school shoesCurrently the schools and churches in our chosen community make their own school books; can't think of a better community to support.

If you are a die-hard Wallabies supporter you will remember the great Willie O. Kevin Hurly from Pelikan Artline organised the shipment to Willie O's communities at Sia-'A-Toutai College in Nuku'alofa, Tonga! Items will be distributed to 12 family groups to support their learning and wellbeing. Educating communities is supporting everyone!

Fiji - Sigatoko, Cuvu District Schools - 2013
Just landed! Pelikan Artline have organised the freighting of goods to the Cuvu District Schools in Sigatoko in Fiji. Pelikan Artline are contributing the container, freight and actual stationery, shipping agents also waved costs, while schools and uniform providers are donating unused track pants, shorts, shirts, hats and socks.
Yes, we have got this enormous container (pictured below) to communities in Sigatoka, Fiji. Three schools will benefit from Pelikan Artline's shipment of stationery as well as unused clothing from Curl Curl North Public School, plus Pickles School Uniforms. Thanks to Kevin Hurly at Artline, it was a huge undertaking and many lessons learned along the way. Thanks also to Belinda Batty at Curl Curl for organising the fabulous clothing! Oh and to the staff at the ‎Shangri-La, Fiji. Sooo proud!

Growing the initiatives

Our aim is to continue to broaden this initiative to support women and children in disadvantaged communities to assist in better health outcomes for their entire community.

Companies keen to donate ex-stock:
Specifically, we would encourage companies who are able to donate ex-stock items such as:
  • Clothing for infants and children
  • Shoes and sports shoes and socks
  • School equipment
  • Sports equipment for schools
  • Basic hygiene products
  • Children's reading books, ideally school readers

Freight and transport companies
While many of the organisations we deal with are happy to take care of freight some are not in a position to do so. If your organisation is able to donate freight please give us a 'hoy'!!!

Individuals with direct contact to communities in need:
If you have direct contact with a school or orphanage in the Asia-Pacific area or with a remote community who you believe would benefit from being included in this scheme contact us directly with details. Requirements for inclusion will depend on the community, however some include:
  • Being able to clearly demonstrate need for support
  • Physical address for the receipt of goods
  • Contact point/person who works within the community that we can talk directly with
  • A person or group who will be responsible for the designation of the goods

If you would like to donate ex-stock to this initiative or suggest a community contact the office, would love to talk with you.
