UNIT content >
We are often asked 'what sort of detail does the course go into', and quite simply it goes into extraordinary detail! Your knowledge around women's hormones and life cycles will be exponentially developed.

We understand learning biochemical pathways is a lot, so you are not expected to memorise this sort of content, quizzes are untimed, open-book, and you can take them several times. However, you will have access to extensive knowledge to grow your health literacy and share. We are passionate about women taking their wellbeing into their hands to set their own futures.

Women, Health and Society

We start out unpacking how society impacts on women's health, health services access and overall wellbeing, covering gender, violence and equality.

Understanding Women's Hormones
Your next topic is a deep dive in the major hormones that affect girls, teens and women's body and overall body, mind and spiritual wellness. We start out with a full review of the major organs, plus the world of receptors and feedback loops all of which are pivotal in any exploration of hormones. Next is a thorough, and we mean through exploration of the role of the major hormones, oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, TSH, LH and more in women's physical and mental health, and life cycles.

Fatigue, hormones, rhythms, testing and measurement
The adrenal glands, cortisol rhythm and response and circadian and DHEA are highly influential on wellbeing, and we take a close look at adrenal fatigue as an example of topics such as HPA Axis, aging, detoxification issues and testing and management options. You're provided with helpful charts and will work through practicals to help you understand and apply charting.

Hormone-related life cycles
Another highly detailed topic that will take your understanding of the factors that trigger changes in adolescence such as puberty, age of menarche, breast tissue development, and menstrual cycle onset and cycling. We take a close look at what triggers menstruation, how the tissue breaks down, changes in vessels and how specific endometrial cells function. You'll review theories on  what controls and runs endometrial tissue changes and cycles, as well as root causes of menstrual irregularities and abnormal uterine bleeding. This leads into a through section on iron status in women including a case study with actual testing examples so that we can consider the actual root causes of iron deficiency or symptoms of iron deficiency and of course anaemia. Using much of the knowledge gained already we explore conception, and issues of timing, mucus, and charting.

The menopausal transition years
Classically referred to as peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause we take a very close look at the role of lifestyle in the onset and experience of this life stage. You'll learn about phytoestrogens, what triggers the onset of peri-menopause and symptoms, as well as the hormonal shifts and their relationship to some of the challenges that can be experience. We look at why some cultures move through this stage with little to no challenges and the role of lifestyle, particularly in the west in early onset of menopause as well as menopausal difficulties. We will dive down into areas such as detoxification processes, dietary influences, xenoestrogens, toxicants and lifestyle and how these impact this life stage. Covered in this section are the major physical and mental health challenges in this stage and some complimentary options used successful by practitioners.

Hormone-influenced and cycle-related health issues
Again, another substantial topic that drills down into some of the major health challenges women face today, including thyroid disease such as PCOS and endometriosis, their root causes, the medical view and the complimentary health view and modalities. Next is a detailed look at Hashimoto's disease, again the root causes, and a case study that highlights testing protocols that are often not considered, we look at iodine and other key nutrient and lifestyle factors through research and the eye of a case study.

You'll also explore the are of cycle synching where we unpack the role of hormones in energy production and how we can use this to determine the ideal activity for each phase of a women's cycle.

Other areas explored include sexual health, contraception options (pros and cons), libido changes, gut health and the role of the microbiome in hormonal adjustments, breast cancer screening, HRT, hormone balance and informed choice.
