WELLBEING MANAGEMENT & COACHING PRACTICES

This unit enables you to develop your coaching practice to create your unique coaching style. You'll apply your knowledge gained in the prerequisite unit (Psychology & Wellbeing Foundations). In this unit you will learn though a beautiful experiential process how to run discovery sessions that then flow and connect to the client's first session. You will become skillful at setting up a session that will enable you to meet your clients right where they are. Your skills during sessions will support the process of evoking change and awareness within clients and you'll partner with them to create their own process to achieve the outcomes they have shared with you.

The subject starts out simply by exploring how to setup and run sessions, then fleshes out each part of the coaching process to culminate in user-friendly process that can be applied in the real world.

This subject is a practical subject where you'll learn how to invite clients into their future, how to face the obstacles they've run into in the past, how to create their own creative and unique way forward, essentially you invite clients into their own amazing future.

Once you have your flow you'll be confident to both coach and mentor your clients with ease and you'll witness and celebrate the transformation of not just your clients but of your own life. Coaching is life changing for clients and coaches.

This unit is a foundation unit in our Nutrition, Health & Wellness Coaching program and also represents the second unit of our Professional Certificate of Wellbeing Coaching. The course is ideal for those in the health, fitness and wellbeing industry, including nurses, personal trainers, nutritionists, dietitians, naturopaths and coaches.

COURSE CONTENT
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THIS SUBJECT? >>>
Your text, workbook and activities will journey with you from connecting authentically with clients (and beyond) through to running successful coaching sessions for clients. The below description describes the content of the course but equally the experience of the subjects as each and every aspect you'll unpack, explore and experience for yourself. Quite simply you'll become the coach you wish to  be in this subject.

The time allocation is made up of research and review for preparation, carrying out the practical work and preparing and submitting relevant documentation and tasks.

Coaching foundations
We begin by looking at the elements that make up a truly effective coaching or mentoring session and explore the concept of 'wellbeing' in the lens of how we can work with, support, and empower others to find processes, plans, strategies, and resources (within and externally) to begin, action and reflect on their wellbeing destination.

The coaching process and what makes it so effective
In this section we explore the origins of coaching and how coaching has been able to move client-led practices beyond a clinical and expert approach. We start to become familiar with the role that coaching competencies from bodies such as the International Coach Federation (ICF) have enabled coaching to be firmly focused on the empowerment of the client as the possessor of all they need in order to live the lives they truly wish to live. We reflect on positive psychology as an influence as well as other theories, however, when come to the ICF competencies we can see how they enable coaches to create powerful transformative coaching sessions.

Person-centered practice to empower clients
In this section we explore the role of the coach and the essential elements of any professional exchange that make it powerful, present-moment and ensure the practitioner meets the individual where they are. We take a deep dive into the characteristics of an effective and ethical coach and strategies to harness our own passion to be the best we can be for ourselves, those around us and our clients. You'll begin to work with clients and other students growing your ability to create a trusting environment free of expectation or judgement.

The logistics of coaching
This topic explores the application of your training to life as a coach looking at logistical elements of booking clients, creating coaching packages to give more to clients beyond your time 1:1 together, and how to use collaborative strategies to build scope into each session and your business itself. We check out booking apps, payment options, 'commitment' forms and accountability and more.

Running sessions and follow-ups
Taking your practical work so far you'll begin to work on structuring sessions with clients so they are focused, transformative, inspiring and achieve the outcomes your clients have shared at the outset. We dive into our own barriers we might have as coaches so that we are safely and authentically in service of others. We'll look at how to exude coaching presence, how to formulate questions that evoke deeper thought, ways to tap into our curiosity and how to nurture your intuition so you hold a amplified trust in your client, yourself and the coaching process.

Taking your work with clients to the next level
With an evolving framework and foundation you'll organically be ready to work on more advanced coaching tools including the use of asking permission to dive deeper and to challenge and extend your clients. In this part of your training you are practicing your coaching with those in your network as well as your fellow students, you'll become adept at reflection, reframing and mirroring to empower your clients to step into their light. You will be comfortable with holding the space and silence for your clients while their transformation continues, and together you'll feel the impact of celebration their successes.


Bringing things to a close
Your sessions now empower clients to clearly articulate what it is they are looking to achieve, what this looks like in reality and what it means to them. In partnership with the client and through curiosity-led and intuitive processes they are able to create their own plan, processes or resolutions to reach their goals. In this process they have felt a growing sense of competency and begun to rekindle self-compassion and an awareness of just how capable they are. In this section you unpack the finishing touches on sessions looking at the resources clients might need to call on from within and around around them, consideration of any obstacles they may need to plan for or unfold, and how they will be able to self-monitor and be accountable to themselves. We explore how to invite clients to bring sessions to close so every aspect of the session has been led by them, and we look at follow-ups, referral systems, duty of care, how to cope with red flags and working safely.

Finally we consider how we can grow as coaches, how to find clients and how to grow our coaching business so we might connect with more people who can benefit from their clear, authentic and positive journey into the life they wish for.

ASSESSMENT TASKS >>>
This is a unique subject as every step of the way you will be experiencing each building block to your transformational coaching style.  At well-placed points, when we know you have your framework in place you'll undertake a task that asks you to look inward and reflect on where your coaching development is. There is no wrong or right, there is just your learning process that is unique to you and likely to inform how it is that you empower others.  Tasks are designed to start out with the stepping stones and before you know it you have 'travelled' such a distance that you are at the top of a mountain and able to look back at the amazing path you have 'walked'.

You'll experience coaching through:
  1. A peer-to-peer session that gently starts you out with coaching from curiosity and coaching questioning. Your task here is to set aside any need to solve problems, to hold others to your expectations, to let go of any need to be right or to judge, and importantly to hold the silence for client as they process their thoughts and feelings. You and your peer will take turns at using coaching style questions to connect. To complete the task you'll sharing your reflections on your experience by answering a short set questions which you'll gain personalised feedback on.
  2. Connection coaching session is a live small group mentoring session of just you and 1-3 other students with highly experienced and inspiring coach. You'll advance your coaching mojo and have a chance to ask all those questions you have in your mind. Your participation is all that is required.
  3. Coaching techniques comparison is a task that starts out with conducting some discovery sessions to practice converting interested clients into full clients. You'll then move into coaching where you'll conduct three different style of coaching sessions which will help you to evolve your unique coaching style. You might undertake them with your peer if you've struck up a connection with, student-coaches from the study group, or with people from your network. You'll record your session (with permission) and watch them back through the lens of your judgement-free observational self. The tasks invites you to reflect on what it was you loved about the session, what you learned from the session and what you'd like to change in going forward. You are not required to submit your recording, instead we are interested in you and your experience as the coach, for which you'll receive personalised feedback from a highly experience coach.

  3. Explain the application and limitations of wellness coaching client tools
  4. Conduct coaching and follow-up sessions that reflect ICF coaching competencies, ethics and standards
  5. Demonstrate coaching communications that reflect a client-led, thought-provoking session that encourages self-discovery and facilitates client growth.
