PTs aren't required to hold registration
That's right, there is no legal requirement for you to have to register with Fitness Australia (FA), or any other organisation, in order to gain insurance and work as a PT. I see a few raised eyebrows, and hear a few 'really?' out there.
It's true! Now I want to remind you that industry registration is one way of staying up-to-date with your industry, and there can be rewards in terms of advertising and industry awards, but you are not legally required to register with any body. We're not trying to sway you, rather we hope to offer a balanced source of information.
Some employers may only take on PTs who hold registration, but even here you should keep in mind that as we understand it's not legal to tell you who you 'have' to register with, it could be deemed 'anti-competitive'... could be! So, currently out there, other that FA, there is also Physical Activity Australia (PAA), who have a similar setup to FA, in so far as you are required to maintain a certain number of points, which can only be gained from approved providers. All of these companies are quality businesses.
In fact some colleges who offer courses in Certificate 3 and 4 in fitness now have packages for insurance without registration; you can go direct from training, to being insured and getting into the workforce all in one go!
Government approved programs, for example those offer by Registered Training Organisations (RTO), offer you portability, you can use units from a program for exemptions in other vocational education training courses (VET). Cadence Health enjoys the latitude of industry accreditation, this gives us the scope to create new and novel courses with content that, we as education experts with industry experience, believe is best for your learning. We are excited about our increasing stable of industry and internationally accredited programs.
So, stay tuned folks, freedom of choice opens a whole lot of new doors to you.
