Ayurvedic Nutrition & Lifestyle

Ayurveda for the mind, body and soul

ENROL NOW

Ayurveda Explained: A holistic path to health, vitality, and spiritual balance through ancient wisdom

Overview

Ayurveda is a spiritually-based practice that connects the mind and body in its view of health and disease. The term ‘Ayurveda’ itself is a combination of two Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Ayurveda is of the mind (Sattva), soul (Atman) and body (Sharira).

Ayurvedic Medicine has at its core universal interconnectedness between individuals, health and the universe itself. Based on our body’s constitution, referred to as prakriti, and dosha (life forces) AM ascribed treatments, diet, practices and lifestyle recommendations to balance the life force. By amending our habits to balance our dosha we can gain vitality and wellness.

As you begin to familiarise yourself with AM you’ll come across such wonderful concepts around your health, existence and wellbeing.

You'll explore concepts such as:
  • Constitutional diet (individualistic and energetic)
  • Prana, the cosmic principle of movement of energy
  • Understanding your constitution (Prakriti) and overcoming imbalances (Vikruti)
  • The influence of the Five Great Elements (Mahabhutas) of fire, earth, air, water and space/ether on our lives
  • How to work with your Dosha (physical constitution) and Guna (psychological) constitution
Such concepts go far beyond Western views of health and healing. AM is a wonderful system, one that connects us to the 'Mother of Existence' and the 'Universal way of all things'. It can help us to live in harmony with nature and the universe; it is a balancer and a wonderful rejuvenator of life. With Ayurvedic practices we can lower our risk of disease, boost our immunity, improve our overall health and vitality and connect with the universe to lift our spiritual awareness.

UNIT content >
The principles that make Ayurveda a body, mind and spirit healing practice
We'll unfold the concepts of prana (energy), the flow of prana and the chakras and how Ayurveda is a truly holistic practice that includes more than merely the physical body. We also begin to explore concepts critical to Ayurveda such as Ojas, the types of prana, and yoga and prana.

Exploration and understanding the Dosha
You'll experience practical tasks to help you understand Ayurvedic constitution and how the Five Great Elements of Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and Space influence whole-being wellness. With this knowledge you be able to confidently explore the world of the Dosha and begin your understanding of balance or imbalance of dosha in daily life. You're provided with an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Booklet to map out your own Ayurvedic lifestyle and plan as you move through each module.

Getting to know temperaments and constitution
We start out with a thorough look at areas of body, mind and spirit, that is Prakriti, Dhatus, Guna, and Dosha to build our foundation knowledge. We can now layer more specific learnings on imbalance (Vikruti) as well as how to determine our individual temperaments.

Ayurvedic physiology
In this module you'll unpack the deeper concepts within the tri-doshic philosophy, covering Vayu/Vata, Pitta and Kapha and understanding the finer lifestyle aspects of each dosha, including the Five Prana, and how these influence health, wellbeing and ananda (bliss). We begin to look at Ayurvedic face mapping, tongue diagnosis, and body clocks to broaden your holistic healing view. From here we can dive deeper into ways we can create balance and harmony of body, mind and spirit, and how the six tastes can be used to create wellness.

Constitutional characteristics - Prakriti
A wonderful section on how we energetically come to be who we are in our bodies so we can better understand 'constitution', Vikruit, cycles and ojas so as to work with them to find sat, chit, ananda (existence, consciousness, bliss). Holding a more complete view of Ayurveda we can make a deeper dive into each of the Dosha looking at what imbalance looks like and where balance might be found.

Working with your constitution
This section is a highly practical module to bring your framework of learnings together so you can enhance your practical application and experience of Ayurveda. We look at how to use food (and the energy within it), routines, sleep, movement, and dosha to find your life balance and wellbeing. We cover the food groups, seasons, food combining , food energetics, recipes for balancing dosha and much more.
