A guide for Well College Global health, wellness and coaching students and graduates
Writing your first blog can feel intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. As a Well College Global student or graduate, you already have valuable knowledge to share, and publishing a blog is one of the best ways to showcase your expertise, build confidence, improve your Google ranking, and position yourself professionally in the wellness space.
Whether you plan to write about nutrition, behaviour change, wellness coaching or a specialised topic from your studies, this guide will walk you through the process step-by-step.
Why blogging matters for your professional growth
A well-written blog can:
  • Build you credibility as a wellness expert
  • Help potential clients find you online
  • Strengthen your website's SEO and Google ranking
  • Give you content to repurpose across social media Boost your confidence as a practitioner and communicator
Even one published blog starts shaping your professional voice.
Step 1: Choose a clear and relevant topic
Pick a topic that aligns with your studies, your interests, and what your potential audience wants to learn.
Examples include:
  • How mindful eating supports healthier food choices
  • Five simple ways to increase hydration daily
  • What is transformational coaching (and why does it work?)
Your blog should solve a problem, answer a questions, or provide practical value.
Step 2: Research and reference your claims
If you make a claim, quote a statistic, or refer to evidence, you must reference it. This protects credibility and avoids miss-information.
For example:
  • Instead of writing:
"Drinking more improves energy levels."
  • Write:
  • "Studies have found that mild hydration can negatively affect energy levels, mood and concentration (Popkin, Rosenburg, 2023)."
You may use:
- APA referencing
- Harvard style
- Links to credible sources
Ask AI about Harvard referencing if you need a reminder.
Step 3: Plan your structure before you write
A simple effective blog format might look like this:
  1. Headline - clear, specific, and benefit focussed
  2. Introduction - hook your reader with a question, statement or relatable scenario
  3. Main body - use headings, short paragraphs, tips or bullet points
  4. Conclusion - summarise your key points or offer practical next steps
  5. Call to action (CTA) 0 invite the reader to follow you, subscribe, or book a session
Step 4: Write in a friendly tone
Your blog should sound like you are talking to a real person, not writing an essay,
Tips:
  • Avoid jargon unless you explain it
  • Keep sentences and paragraphs short
  • Use practical examples
  • Be conversational, confident and supportive
Step 5: Edit and format for readability
Once you've draft your blog:
  • Read it aloud, does it flow naturally?
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Break long text into short sentences
  • Add headings, bullet points or bold key points
Formatting improves engagement and improves accessibility for readers and search engines.
Step 6: Include keywords to improve SEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) helps Google understand your topic.
Try to use keywords naturally without over stuffing.
You can run your draft blog through AI and ask for advice on SEO and keywords.
Step 7: End with a call to action
Examples:
  • Follow me on Instagram for weekly wellness tips
  • Want support to x,y,z? Contact me and book a free discovery session.
A CTA guides readers to the next step in connecting with you, be clear on what you want them to do and how to do it.
Recommended word count
600-1000 words is an ideal length because:
  • It's long enough to provide value and demonstrate your knowledge.
  • Short enough that people with read it without loosing interest.
  • Google prefers blogs over 600 words for ranking and SEO.
