Overview

Understanding human nature beyond the obvious behaviours we can see is an essential part of working with others. Through theory and practical work, this fascinating subject will take you inside the world of psychology into areas such as personality, habit formation, and theories on how motivation works best, to name just a few topics you'll cover. 

From here we move into the world of coaching, where we explore behaviour change models, and begin our dive into the skills you'll develop as a client-led coach who has confidence in their curiosity and intuition enabling you to empower others to resolve, solve and overcome the challenges they are facing.

You'll unpack the use of wellbeing assessments and other common tools used in coaching and mentoring.
​And lastly the wellbeing topics offer you the opportunity to delve into intuitive eating, somatic therapies to support psychological wellbeing, sleep coaching, stress management, positive psychology, mindfulness, the role of affirmations, the use of low toxicity lifestyles to improve wellbeing, and areas of holistic health and wellbeing.

There are no requirements to enrol into to this subject. It is also being perfect for those  in the health, fitness and wellbeing industry, including nurses, personal trainers, nutritionists, dietitians, naturopaths and coaches (option to add just two subjects and gain the Professional Certificate in Wellness Coaching. 

This unit is a core unit in the Diploma of Nutrition & Health Coaching and the and the Women's Health & Wellness Coach Certification Program.

NHC501: Psychology & Wellbeing Foundations
Learning and teaching

We use modern blended learning approach. This course is designed for flexibility and ease, with downloadable topic-based textbooks in PDF format, guided instructions to keep you on track, and an interactive workbook packed with videos, tasks, and note-taking space. You'll also gain access to essential readings, templates, and tools for extended learning. Stay up to date with the latest in nutrition and health, and make the most of this dynamic, evidence-based learning experience!

Assessment methods
At Well College we see assessments not as tests but as learning tools, they are not meant to trick you, rather they are designed to provide you with another learning opportunity.
The assessment task involves creating tools and templates for a pass or fail submission. The tools will assist you with your coaching business upon graduation.
Once you have completed your assessment and a pass mark is allocated, you will be granted access to download your Certificate along with a free Continuing Education Points digital badge.

The classes you take will vary based on your course, offering different formats for meaningful interaction with staff, industry professionals, and peers. WCG courses focus on active learning rather than passive large-scale lectures, with content typically provided online through readings, videos, and other on-demand materials.

Continuing Education
Students enrolled in a WCG Diploma, Program or Certificate where this subject is a core elective, will have free ongoing access to the Coaching, Health and Business Live Classes.
UNIT CONTENT >
Wellbeing management for clients and coaches
Understand how working from a whole person, wellbeing approach is able to take the current health paradigm of a more clinical and clinician-led approach to a level where the client is able to embrace their health literacy and wellness. And, explore a client-led approach that will enable you to partner with clients to meet their desired goals.

Coaching to evoke change
In this topic you'll 'travel' from motivational interviewing methodology all the way through to the beautiful 'coach what is in front of you' approach of ICF (International Coach Federation) style of coaching. Well College Global uses the international gold standard coaching model by ICF throughout its coaching programs so your coaching style will be polished, effective and transformative.

Psychology and health psychology
Understand human nature from how we learn, how habits are formed and unformed, the role of personality in behaviours such as food choices, motivation and how we can use systems to support client change.

Coaching models applied to real life
So often study comes with theory, concepts and models. However, applying any that these concepts that might be relevant in your sessions, is the key to making them relevant in an actual coaching situation. You'll unpack models such as the Transtheoretical Model of Behaviour Change, and we'll take this to the next level by unpacking tools such as wellbeing assessments. You can and will experience these and other tools in coaching practice and also as part of your discovery sessions you'll offer potential clients. One of the most challenging aspects to coaching is finding and converting clients and you'll start to gain knowledge and experience around both in this subject, with other subjects in our coaching programs advancing this further.

Setting up and running successful coaching sessions
In this topic you'll develop your understanding and practice of how to establish the framework for each coaching session to ensure that the client stays focused on their goals, and by the end of the session feels motivated, clear and energised to take action. As you begin to grow your coaching skills you will increasingly be able to evoke awareness within clients. You'll learn techniques help you to evolve from offering advice or doing the 'heavy lifting' for clients, to being adept at partnering with clients to help them see their own intuitive and resourced or create a process to gain the resources they need in order to live the life they wish.

Wellbeing modalities and techniques
Lastly, you'll begin your exploration of the world of wellbeing diving into areas such as intuitive eating, somatic therapies such as red light, EFT, stress management, sleep coaching, self-efficacy and more. You will also review the factors that negatively impact on wellbeing such as EMF, endocrine disruptors, glyphosate, POAFS and much more. These specialised topics are developed further in other subjects.

When awarded credit for this unit, a learner will:
  1. Understand the coaching professional and the influences that have shaped its development
  2. Understand the benefits of coaching and its related models and techniques
  3. Be able to assess how unique client traits and personal coaching skills influence the coaching experience
  4. Understand the scope of practice framework in coaching
Students by the end of the course will be competent to:
  • Explore how coaching has evolved and how it differs from mentoring
  • Understand the psychological foundations that have shaped modern coaching approaches
  • Discover the core benefits of coaching and how it supports behaviour change
  • Learn how to use powerful questioning techniques to better understand client needs and motivation
  • Compare different coaching styles and approaches to find what works best
