Healthy enjoyable movement and mental health sign posts

Physical, Emotional & Mental Health

A unique single unit course (also a core unit in our Certificate of Nutrition & Health Coaching) that offers you an insight into the minimum requirements for movement for good health, along with the opportunity to begin a journey into understanding mental health challenges and how to respond appropriately and support those with such challenges.

This course is currently made up of 3 components:
  1. Principles of Physical Activity
  2. Emotional Health - BCoached*
  3. Mental Health Awareness

Module one - Physical Health takes a look at just what the world guidelines and research say about physical activity and exercise. Covering, statistics on healthy movement around the globe and why people don't exercise, how much is enough, how often is required and what type of activity it takes to live a healthy lifestyle and get health benefits from activity. World guidelines from major countries are discussed in order to find a consensus on just how much activity we need for good health. You will cover body measurements and how these assist us in creating healthful states of being, as well as their issues and limitations in the real world. You'll learn what level of physical activity is most ideal for good health and how to support clients in achieving this safely. Online, untimed quiz assessment.

Module two - Emotional Health is our emotional health module we simply call BCoached, it is in essence your clinical work so that you can experience client-centered health across many settings. In almost all health orientated university courses you'll be required to undertake some clinical or external work or practical, our program uses BCoached. Each student coach will be required to undertake, at some point across their training, two coaching sessions (as the client) with our approved coaches. You'll experience different styles of coaching to build your confidence, you'll be supported during your training, and you'll have an opportunity to check your coaching skills with experts and develop a robust coaching style. Participation only, no assessment. This is the only additional cost in the program*. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the global crises we are all going through together this assessment has been altered, students can opt to undertake the task as it is, or access free coaching with other students, or if they do not feel they are up to this can opt out. We are here to support our students when they choose to be supported.

Module three - Mental Health consists of Mental Health Awareness content which covers depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychosis and substance use problems. A range of crises are reviewed from suicidal thoughts and behaviours, self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, acute effects from substance use, and psychotic states to aggressive behaviours. You'll gain an understanding of the signs and symptoms of the mental health challenges that far too many of us must cope with in society today, whether directly or indirectly, as well as understand the support that has been shown to be effective in research. Drawn from an extensive array of government and not-for-profit agencies and their resources this module will bring together the best information and resources so you can work through the workbook. Final assessment is an untimed, online quiz. AVAILABLE SEPARATELY ALSO.

A growing tide of disconnection is all our concern

The prevalence of mental health issues across the globe continues to rise and alarm, as we become more disaffected, more dis-connected, more solitary we face challenges around anxiety, depression and other mental health problems. In Australia alone it is estimated that 14% of people suffer with anxiety, 6% from depression and the rates of suicide in certain groups continues to grow, year-on-year. Across the board some 20% of Australians experience some form of mental illness, and Australian statistics tend to mirror many Western countries.

Standard Online - $399 AUD*
* Does not include the cost of BCoaching sessions which are external, they are an agreement between you and your chosen coach and are private sessions. Session fees vary from $70-150 per hour depending on the coach. You are required to undertake just two within a 12 month period. Please note that this has now been varied as optional or the choice to access free coaching with other student-coaches.

Available for those with current Certificate III in Fitness or above, or current industry insurance as a PT or sports scientist

Module three (Mental Health Awareness) exemption - $199.50 AUD
Available for those with a relevant tertiary degree and current industry recognition, or if you hold a current MHFA certificate
